New International Version (NIV)
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
1 John 2:16
16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
lack of interest, concern, or sympathy.
Actions speak louder than words so if you bypass your neighbor who is without food, water, shelter, or love then praise a Lord you have never seen, then you worship the idea of self-righteousness, not Go(o)d. We can only love others to the extent that we are capable of loving ourselves. Love of others begins with love of self.
We often use the heart as a metaphor for love. The heart is a muscle. It must be exercised. In the United States of America, especially in the Black community, we have a heart disease epidemic. People attempt to blame it on lots of thing-- poor diet, stress, lack of exercise and more. The truth of the matter is, people get heart disease because they do not know how to love themselves properly. If they loved themselves properly, they would feed themselves properly and make proper use of their temple. The church is in the heart. If the heart is diseased, then so is the church. If the church is diseased then so are its people, in "One Nation Under God."
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women in the United States (UTSouthwestern Medical Center)
- a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
It always comes back to the money. If the doctor cures you, then (s)he can't make money. When people have more money than they need, but not much love for themselves, they tend to use money to overcompensate and over-consume. This results in health issues, primarily heart disease. As a result of heart disease, we have many other shortcomings. A people unable to love themselves cannot love their neighbors or fellow citizens. We have displaced people we refer to as homeless because they have nowhere to rest their hearts. Home is where the heart is. People choose money over love. The love of money is the root of all evil. Maybe that's why finances are the number one reason for divorce.
2 Corinthians 9:77
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
New International Version Proverbs 18:22
He who finds a wife finds what is GO(o)D and receives favor from the LORD.
“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
